Stephanie Panchkowry secures unanimous acquittal in a kidnap trial

19/07/2023

Stephanie Panchkowry secured an acquittal for her client in a kidnap trial where events were captured on CCTV and ring doorbell footage. The defendants were seen walking along the street to the complainants house, having driven down from Bolton.

They waited outside the complainant’s house and when he came out, demanded his mobile phones – their voices having been recorded on ring doorbell footage.

CCTV captured them forcefully dragging the complainant down the street, punching him to the head multiple times. They then took him to where the car was parked, where another co-defendant was waiting. They bundled him into the car and drove off.

A member of the public reported the incident to the police, who stopped the car and found the complainant bleeding in the back of the car, sandwiched between two of the co-defendants.

Ms Panchkowry represented D1 and cross-examined the complainant at length, including on a 20 minute recording where the complainant was asking for £100,000 to drop the allegation.

Stephanie was instructed by Natalie Miller and Imteyaz Ali of Abbey Solicitors.
