Base Salary
£22,500/yr – £25,000/yr

Mountford Chambers is one of the longest established sets in the United Kingdom, specialising in all areas of criminal law but with a particular emphasis on serious crime, regulatory, public law and business crime.

Its barristers have a reputation for being assured and compelling advocates who provide forensic and rigorous advice and representation

In 2021, Mountford Chambers underwent a significant rebranding exercise to reflect a modern, progressive barrister chambers in a post COVID legal environment.

We seek a new junior clerk, ideally a school leaver but a candidate with up to 12 months experience will also be considered, to assist in the smooth running of chambers affairs to work with its young and friendly existing clerking team.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting existing clerks with day to day running of the diary and the long-term planning of members practices
  • Billing publicly funded and private work (for both crown court and magistrates court)
  • Agreeing fees on behalf of members for appropriate cases
  • Resulting from previous days listings, including obtaining attendance notes from counsel if they are missing
  • Dealing with email and telephone enquiries from chambers professional clients and members
  • Liaising with courts and solicitors, including both oral and written correspondence dealing with moving cases/hearing and other requests when needed

The right candidate can expect a level of flexible working, including working from home. A salary of up to £25,000 p/a will be considered, along with 20 days annual leave and pension contributions.
