Operation Lapping was an investigation into Class A drugs supply by an Albanian led Organised Crime Group operating in the London area. It supplied import quality cocaine to other wholesalers who were in the South West of England. The delivery driver made over 30 runs to the SW, typically carrying 3kgs of cocaine per run. Although the OCG used Encrophones, telephone traffic and text messages from other phones were retrieved which showed traffic between conspirators at the time runs were made or were about to be made. Messages before and after one run during which the delivery driver met the defendant (caught on CCTV) confirmed that they had met, that a deal had been done and that ‘everything went well’. The defendant – an alleged wholesaler – was, however, found Not Guilty by the jury. To date he is the only one of the original 15 alleged conspirators to be found Not Guilty – 10 others have been convicted.
