Zayd Ahmed secures unanimous acquittal in “operation temper” an investigation into the supply of class A drugs in Birmingham.

07/02/2025

Zayd Ahmed represented MA, who was charged, alongside 7 other defendants, with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs between April 2023 and June 2024.

A number of defendants had already pleaded guilty to the offence, and therefore, the Crown was able to prove the existence of a drug line.

The Crown’s case was that the defendant was dealing drugs, having been found with the drug line when he was stopped and searched, and furthermore, co-locating with the drug line throughout the conspiracy.

The Crown also attempted to introduce evidence from the defendant’s phone, which was ultimately excluded after submissions.

Zayd was able to demonstrate flaws in the Crown’s case, cross-examine the officer in charge on failures in the investigation, and call expert cell site evidence to demonstrate that the co-location was inaccurate and could not prove, to the criminal standard, a conspiracy.

After a lengthy trial at Birmingham Crown Court, the jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty on all counts.

Zayd was instructed by Ishaaq Khattak of No. 1 Defender Solicitors.
