Zayd Ahmed successfully secured an acquittal for his client, who faced multiple serious charges of rape against a serving police officer.
The trial, which took place at Warwick Crown Court, involved evidence from the complainant, a serving police officer, and other witnesses called by the Crown to demonstrate that the complainant was an honest and reliable witness.
Zayd thoroughly reviewed the unused material and successfully cross-examined the complainant, demonstrating to the jury that she was being untruthful and misleading. After several hours of deliberation, the jury returned verdicts of not guilty.
The trial judge, the Recorder of Warwick, commended Zayd for his advocacy skills and his ability to balance the defendant’s rights within the trial process.
Zayd was instructed by Lianne Salam of Healey Colbon Solicitors.
