Anjelica Smerin is currently undertaking her second six pupillage under the supervision of Alexandra Scott.
In her first-six Anjelica assisted with the preparation of Crown Court trials in a wide range of areas. This included a firearms case involving the use of drill music and lyrics, sentencing in large-scale drug importation, a high-value fraudulent trading case and a death by dangerous driving trial. Anjelica has recently undertaken training with the YJLC to represent child defendants in the Youth and Crown Court.
Prior to commencing pupillage, Anjelica was an OISC accredited advisor working as a caseworker for the charity Bail for Immigration Detainees. In this role she represented vulnerable clients with a complex history of trafficking, mental health and serious criminal backgrounds. Additionally, Anjelica provided advice and prepared bail applications for those detained pursuant to the Rwanda Policy in May 2024.
During her time as a student Anjelica was committed to pro-bono opportunities and was a student director of the School Exclusion Project which offered pro-bono representation to young people facing permanent exclusion from school. Her work in this capacity was highly commended at the LawWorks and Attorney-General Student Pro-Bono Awards 2023. In addition, Anjelica taught public speaking skills to inmates at HMP Brixton with the project Vocalise and was an advisor with Citizens Advisor for two years.
