A female prison officer accused of striking a prisoner with a baton during an altercation has been handed a three-month curfew as part of a six-month community order.
The offence, which occurred in 2019, arose during an incident in which the defendant herself was also assaulted.
In court, it was acknowledged that the lengthy delay in bringing the case to trial, due in part to the need for further police enquiries had placed significant pressure and strain on the defendant, having a substantial adverse impact on her wellbeing over a six year period.
Taking these factors into account, the judge determined that a three-month curfew accurately reflected the circumstances of the case and the balance of justice.
