Barristers, Solicitors & Police

The uncompromising professional standards required of those working in the legal system such as solicitors, barristers, and the police, ensures that public confidence and trust in these important professions is maintained.

Barristers

Our barristers are often instructed in cases involving the Bar Standards Board, including alleged breaches of the BSB Handbook, issues concerning professional conduct, and matters arising from direct public access work. We provide robust representation through all stages of the disciplinary process from investigations to formal disciplinary hearings and appeals.

Our team also advises on continuing obligations, including reporting duties, data protection breaches, conflicts of interest, and the ethical use of AI and legal technology in practice.

Solicitors

Our barristers are regularly instructed to represent and advise solicitors and law firm employees in internal disciplinary processes and under investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) or facing proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT).

We are well-versed in the complexities of cases involving alleged dishonesty, misuse of client funds, breaches of the SRA Standards, failures in supervision, and failures to comply with AML requirements.

Our barristers can provide strategic advice to firms and individuals on how to conduct themselves during an investigation to minimise exposure and maximise the chance of the regulator taking no further action. We advise early engagement of counsel in most cases.

Our experience can assist from the earliest stages of an investigation, including document production requests, to the entire hearing process including High Court appeals.

We also advise on preventative compliance, internal disciplinary proceedings, and our members have acted as mediators in partner disputes.

Police Officers

We act for police officers facing professional misconduct proceedings under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 and related frameworks. Our barristers have extensive experience in representing officers in interviews under caution, misconduct meetings, accelerated hearings, and full disciplinary proceedings.

In addition to disciplinary cases, we are frequently instructed in criminal proceedings against officers, including allegations of assault, misconduct in public office, and data protection breaches. We also act for officers in coronial proceedings, including inquests arising from deaths in custody or following police contact.

Our barristers bring multi-disciplinary experience spanning criminal defence, inquests, and professional regulation to bear in every case. This enables us to provide a comprehensive and strategic service, ensuring that all aspects of an officer’s professional and legal position are protected.

We also act in judicial reviews of disciplinary decisions and Police Appeals Tribunal hearings, often in high-profile or sensitive matters involving use of force, breach of confidentiality, or abuse of position.
