News & Insights
Mountford Chambers is delighted to announce that Charley Weldrick has joined as a probationary tenant, following his successful completion of pupillage at another leading set. Called to the Bar in 2022, Charley brings a wealth of experience in criminal law and has already established a broad practice, both prosecuting and defending in the Magistrates’, Crown, and Youth Courts.
Charley’s practice covers a wide range of criminal matters, including serious violence, drug offences, and sexual offences. He has developed a particular interest in youth justice, demonstrating a strong ability to connect with young defendants, gaining their trust and guiding them through the complexities of the criminal justice system. His experience in road traffic matters, particularly in cases involving drink driving, exceptional hardship, and special reasons, has also set him apart as a rising talent in this area of law.
In addition to his growing practice in criminal defence, Charley’s background includes extensive pro bono work. He has represented clients in social security tribunals through the Yorkshire Tribunal Advocacy Project and in employment tribunals via Leeds Free Legal Representation. This is further reflected in his role as a trustee of the Believe Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence.
Charley’s advocacy skills have already earned him praise from both clients and solicitors, with feedback noting his tenacity, attention to detail, and sound judgement. Recent testimonials from solicitors include:
“Charley is diligent and tenacious, going above and beyond in his cases.”
“His excellent judgement and client care set him apart in the courtroom.”
Before joining the Bar, Charley completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Politics at the University of Leeds, followed by an MA in Law at the University of Law, where he earned a Merit. He was also awarded several scholarships, including the Lord Blunkett Scholarship and the Middle Temple Diplock Scholarship.
Mountford Chambers is proud to welcome Charley, and we look forward to seeing his practice grow as he continues to excel in criminal advocacy.
