Mountford Chambers is thrilled to announce the arrival of three new pupils who were called to the Bar in 2024: Anjelica Smerin, Anna Wright, and Oscar Robins. Each pupil brings unique experiences, academic achievements, and a strong commitment to their legal careers.
Anjelica Smerin joins us after a distinguished career as a caseworker with Bail for Immigration Detainees. During her time there, she achieved a 100% success rate in preparing immigration bail applications for vulnerable clients, including those with histories of trafficking or mental health challenges. Anjelica also assisted with the charity’s Rwanda Project, providing support to those detained under the government’s controversial Rwanda Policy. With a background in public speaking training for inmates and pro bono work in school exclusion cases, Anjelica’s commitment to justice is evident. She is supervised by William England during her first six months of pupillage.
Anna Wright brings extensive experience from her time at the Metropolitan Police Service, where she managed complex criminal case files, including offences of attempted murder, rape, and domestic violence. Anna’s expertise in disclosure and her recognition for service excellence, including a Letter of Appreciation from the Head of Met Prosecutions, sets her apart. She also holds a Distinction in the Bar Vocational Studies from City University of London and has been active in pro bono work, such as teaching debating skills to inmates and supporting domestic violence victims. Anna’s pupillage is supervised by Bozzie Sheffi.
Oscar Robins arrives at Mountford Chambers following his academic success at Trinity College, University of Oxford, where he was awarded the Sally Ball Prize for European Union Law. Oscar’s passion for Education Law and commitment to charitable causes have been reflected in his volunteer work with children with disabilities and his role as Chair of an Independent Review Panel for school exclusions. He has also been actively involved in advocacy as President of the Debating Society and as Mooting Officer at Oxford. Oscar is supervised by Houzla Rawat during his pupillage.
We are proud to welcome Anjelica, Anna, and Oscar to Mountford Chambers and are confident that their unique skills and dedication will contribute to the success of the set. Their pupillage marks the start of a promising career, and we are excited to support their journey toward becoming barristers.
Mountford Chambers is proud of its tradition of developing promising young barristers, and chambers maintains a fantastic track record in retaining home grown talent.
