Joseph Sinclair’s client was charged with three counts of blackmail, arising out of offences committed against two men, both of whom she encountered on dating applications. She arranged to meet them for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity and thereafter tried to extort sums of money from both by threatening to go to the police with allegations of rape, and threatening violence.
Guilty pleas were entered to all matters, and the Judge was persuaded to suspend the term of 17 months’ imprisonment, notwithstanding the nature and seriousness of the offences, in light of Joseph’s submissions as to her mental health and personal circumstances.
Joseph was instructed by Karamjit Singh of Holborn Law and assisted by James Miller, a first-six pupil in Chambers.
