James Lloyd has been featured in the Spring 2026 edition of Ten Twenty magazine, following an interview on defending police officers in misconduct proceedings.
In the piece, James discusses the changing landscape of police misconduct work, including the impact of the post-2024 reforms, the abolition of Legally Qualified Chairs, and the increasingly intense scrutiny under which officers now operate.
James also reflects on the particular challenges of defending officers in a system where public confidence, accountability and fairness must all be carefully balanced, and on the vital role played by Police Federation representatives in supporting officers through often career-defining proceedings.
James is Deputy Head of Professional Discipline at Mountford Chambers. He is regularly instructed in police misconduct, regulatory and professional discipline proceedings, and has particular experience in cases involving dishonesty, fatalities following police contact, use of force, off-duty conduct, criminal allegations and complex procedural issues.
