Georgia-Mae Chung Writes for Counsel Magazine Discussing Developing a Bereavement Policy for Chambers

19/01/2026

Georgia-Mae Chung has written an article for Counsel Magazine discussing her work to create a bereavement policy for adoption by barristers’ chambers. This was carried out with Sarah Lucy Cooper of Thomas More Chambers. The policy was endorsed by the Bar Council and launched last summer by the then Chair of the Bar, Barbara Mills KC. The policy is tailored for the self-employed Bar but is also intended to cover employed barristers, pupils, clerks, and other staff. It is a mixture of the legal protection that should be in place, along with practical tips and recommendations. It is intended to act as a living document.

Mountford Chambers has adopted and implemented the bereavement policy, and we would encourage other chambers to do so.

Georgia-Mae began this work following the initial launch of her Aggrieved events in Middle Temple. They have since continued as biannual events hosted by Mountford Chambers. During these events, she chairs a panel with four other individuals who work in law or study it. They discuss their personal experiences of grief, how they have navigated it and how they have tried to manage it alongside their commitments and lifestyles.

The next aggrieved event will take place in Spring, and the date and details will be announced on the Mountford Chambers website in due course.
