Charley Weldrick acted on behalf of a London bus driver who was charged with causing death by careless driving and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence after tragically causing the death of a pedestrian whilst driving a bus.
The defendant, who pleaded guilty in the Crown Court, was found to have been travelling at close to 50% above the speed limit shortly before hitting a pedestrian who was using a zebra crossing. The defendant was also driving otherwise in accordance with his licence, by virtue of not wearing the prescription eyeglasses required by his licence. Following Charley’s extensive mitigation setting out his client’s sincere remorse and otherwise unblemished career as a professional driver, a sentence of 9 months custody suspended for 24 months was passed and a 3 year disqualification from driving imposed.
Charley was instructed by Sam Marsh of Thompsons LLP.
