Cannabis Importation Acquittal

09/04/2026

Alexandra Scott’s client faced two counts of the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of controlled drugs.

The allegation was that on two occasions in 2022 and 2023, the defendant used two companies and multiple aliases to orchestrate the importation of a total of 85kg of cannabis, secreted in individual packets of noodles within boxes that formed part of a much larger shipment.  The defendant accepted organising both shipments but denied knowing that either consignment of noodles contained cannabis.

During the course of the investigation, the police located a false identity document in the name of the director of the company used to facilitate the first importation.  The defendant pleaded guilty to that offence.

Following eight hours of deliberation, the jury acquitted of both counts.

The defendant received a sentence of 6 months’ imprisonment for possessing a false identity document with improper intent.

Alexandra was instructed by Aamer Rathor at Gatsby Law.
