Alphege Bell secures an acquittal on murder and manslaughter in a five week trial at the Old Bailey that concluded on 11 December 2025.
The defendant and codefendant were accused of carrying out a sustained and intense attack on a man outside Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium. The deceased was stabbed and slashed repeatedly. There were considerable challenges in meeting the prosecution case, not least because the incident was captured from a variety of angles on CCTV.
The defendant could clearly be seen participating in the attack and kicking out at the deceased. However, through a very careful micro analysis of the images and a deconstruction of the evidence, the law and modality relating to culpability for joint participation homicide the defendant was acquitted of murder and manslughter. The codefendant was convicted of murder.
Alphege appeared with James Scobie KC of Garden Court Chambers. They were instructed by Vanessa Wiggins and Malisha Patel of Bark and Co Solicitors.
