Alphege Bell and Sebastian Winnett Act in Nationally Significant Prison Escape Forgery Case

10/12/2025

Alphege Bell represented the first defendant of five, who was charged with conspiracy to escape from Prison. Sebastian Winnett represented the second defendant.

The first defendant had recruited the second defendant to produce forged documentation purporting to be from the Royal Courts of Justice. He succeeded in tricking the Governor into arranging the first defendant’s release.

The first defendant sought to use the same method to secure the release of two other prisoners, but the conspiracy was uncovered.

The case assumed national significance because the last time this method of escape was used was 2014 and because of the embarrassment caused to the government.

The defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3 years 3 months.

Alphege was instructed by Domonic Morel of Carson Kaye. Sebastian was instructed by Shahid Khan of AdviceWise Solicitors.
